Las Vegas Prom Closet

Las Vegas Prom Closet is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to making prom a reality for students who wish to attend, but could not otherwise afford the expense. Our main focus is to distribute gently used prom attire to disadvantaged young women. We also provide financial assistance to young men needing tuxedo rentals, girls wanting hair and make-up design, and couples needing assistance with dinner/entertainment options.

Las Vegas Prom Closet, formally know as Aly's Prom Closet, was founded by Becky Christensen of Reno, Nevada in 2002. Becky's inspiration came from her daughter Aly Christensen who lost her life in a car accident in December 2001. Aly's vibrant personality and desire to help others continues to inspire all those who volunteer each year to make APC a reality. Becky partnered with Stu Gordon of Family Counseling Services of Northern Nevada to kick off APC in Spring 2002. In the Spring of 2003, they decided to expand the program to Southern Nevada. Each year, both North and South affiliates continue to expand their collaborations in the community, which helps to provide more resources to the teens.

In Southern Nevada, the Las Vegas Prom Closet will offer two Saturdays in April for young women to select their attire (dress, shoes, jewelry, handbags, etc). A partnership with the Boys & Girls Club has provided a centrally located site in an area close to the population we are serving. The students are able to visit the "store" on April 5 and 12 from 10:00 a.m-4:00 p.m., which will be at the Andre Agassi Boys & Girls Club located at 800 N. Martin Luther King Boulevard. These items are all provided at no charge to the students.

The Las Vegas Prom Closet is staffed, organized and run by volunteers. All donations — goods, services, and funds — go directly to the benefit of the students. Our business partners and supporters have helped by donating in a variety of ways: dry cleaning for the donated dresses, dining and entertainment certificates, storage space for off-season storage needs, store display racks, transportation of the goods and equipment, dresses and accessories, promotional information to the community, and cash donations which help purchase all of the above.
